A Beautiful Gem on Pittsburgh’s North Side – Calvary United Methodist Church

On March 18, 2017, We made the short journey to Calvary United Methodist Church in Pittsburgh’s North Side. It is located at 971 Beech Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15233, near the Community College of Allegheny County.

This Church was built in 1892 and was recognized in 1972 as a historic landmark. It was added to the City of Pittsburgh’s list of Historic Destinations in 1977.

Calvary’s Congregation is warm and welcoming, conducting Sunday services at 11am each week as well as providing meeting space for other small community groups.

The Ornate Style of this church sets the tone for many beautiful wedding ceremonies. The crowning jewel in the church is the 30′ tall Louis Tiffany stained glass window located at the rear of the church. There are also over 200 smaller stained glass windows located throughout the church.

Calvary United Methodist Church is available to members as well as non-members for wedding ceremonies. Also, for a small fee wedding parties may use the church’s aisle candles which create a stunning atmosphere.

Design, Rework, Transform!

Here at Parkway Florist we strive every day to offer creative suggestions for wedding flowers. One of the many things we are happy to do is repurpose flowers from your ceremony to use at your reception.

In the pictures below you will see our lovely brass arch decorated for a ceremony at Pathway Church in Beaver Falls, Pa. This served as a backdrop for both the ceremony and the family pictures that followed. Our team then disassembled the arch and used the flowers at the couple’s reception. The flower arrangement at the top of the arch was tweaked slightly to create a stunning head table centerpiece. The two pieces from the sides of the arch were used to decorate the place card table.

Not only is this a great way to keep a cohesive look from your ceremony to your reception, but it allows you the opportunity to have flowers in more places without the additional cost. We are full of ideas and creative solutions that we would be happy to use on your big day!

Pew Decorations

Our newest favorite pew decoration/flower is shown here:

This very simple design only requires a very small rise on the top of the pew. Two yards of tulle was used in each decoration with approximately 1 1/2 yards of double faced satin ribbon used to tie the bow. The flower was slipped into place after the bow was tied. We would recommend using 1 large flower here to keep the decoration light weight, as well as cost effective.

Heinz Chapel- Open & Cool Again!

If you haven’t been to Heinz Chapel lately, you are in for a treat. Air Conditioning! Yes- after many many years & much expense, Heinz Chapel is now climate controlled. Wonderful!

Our latest visit to Heinz Chapel allowed guests as well as staff to remain cool, calm, and collected on a hot July Day. Everyone is amazed at how wonderful the climate controls are functioning.

Considering something rather spectacular for a wedding ceremony? If you have one of many connections to the University of Pittsburgh, you can be married here. (See http://www.heinzchapel.pitt.edu for complete details.) If you lack a connection for a wedding ceremony, please consider visiting Heinz Chapel for one of the special concerts or services.

Ceremony Sites – Traditional and Non-Traditional

Pittsburgh Botanical Garden 2 copyPittsburgh Botanical Garden

Pittsburgh’s New Botanical Garden. Parkway Florist had the pleasure of providing flowers for the very first wedding held at the Pittsburgh Botanical Garden on 5/19/2015. A huge stone fireplace graces the outdoor patio area while a grassy area with rustic doors becomes the ceremony center of attention. Split rail fencing helps to define this area. Green grass, simple pots of flowers and good friends make for an enjoyable wedding experience here.
